"God's intention for each of us is that we should grow to the point where he can empower us to do what we want - then he can turn us loose on the universe!"  Dallas Willard

1.    Does the word 'church' arouse positive or negative feelings in you?  Or, perhaps you feel a mixture of both. Think about the experiences behind those responses.  Jot down a few of your thoughts.

2.    Read page xxi again. What is the purpose of this book?  Don't worry if you can't define missional and incarnational. You will soon. Does this page encourage you to keep reading? Why or why not?

3.    Have you ever had a 'Fiona' experience where, even for a short time, you have an opportunity to share unexpectedly and deeply about your life with God? Where someone has confided in you in an unexpected moment? Spend a few minutes remembering. Did you feel fearful? Confident? Fully alive?

4.    At the end of the first chapter, the author asks, 'Describe the last time your heart broke for someone.' How do you respond to that question?

List a few of the difficult times in your life.

  • How did you view God?
  • Did you doubt Him?
  • Question His leading?
  • Take matters into your own hands?

Evaluate your 'saltiness' and then look at FaithWorks and see how a cumulative seasoning can provide a powerful amount of flavour to a community.

List ways in which we can pool our saltiness.

Prayer: O God, You have taught us to keep all Your commandments by loving You and our neighbours. Grant us the grace of Your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to You with our whole hearts, and united to others with pure affection. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
